Jarryd: September 23rd, 2010 marks the day in which Jarryd Commerford sealed the fate of not only himself, but also the fate of college buddy Simon Linsley. An email titled "Is anyone stupid enough to do this?" was all it took to convince the other half of The Mighty Tuks to join him in making a rash and perhaps crazy, but life-altering decision. Hailing from boring old California, it is no real surprise that he actively sought the challenge that is the Rickshaw Run. A very proud georgraphy nerd with an over-confident sense of direction, he will most likely try and do this trip without a map. Surprisingly, Jarryd waited to join the ranks of the Adventurists until after he finished his bachelor's degree at George Washington University, his Master's at University of Nottingham, and a spate of travelling to popular holiday destinations such as North Korea. Settled down (for now) in Washington DC and working in the solar industry, Jarryd is spending his free time daydreaming about life in a Tuk-Tuk and helping to raise money for the Dream Foundation.
Simon: When asked to join this most adventurous of races, Simon's response was "give me an hour, I need to call my mom." Luckily his mom said it was ok, and he became the second member of The Mighty Tuks. He hails from rugged Utah, so you would think that Simon would be the perfect type of person to take on and adventure such as the Rickshaw Run...and we are greatly hoping this is the case. He is an amazing skier, a skilled soccer player, and a half decent flag football player, none of which are skills that will be helpful on the trip. Simon graduated from George Washington University in 2009, and has since been teaching 8th Graders in Philly through Teach For America since. Now a battle hardened Philly resident, the Rickshaw Run should not prove to be too much of a challenge for him.
